How to make a passport photo at home
Take the photo
Face the camera straight on with a neutral expression, eyes open, in even daylight. Have someone take it from about 1.5 m away rather than a close selfie.
Add it
Drop in the photo (iPhone HEIC works). The background is removed on your device and your head is placed automatically.
Choose size and background
Pick the size you need — 2×2 in, 35×45 mm, 50×70 mm or 40×60 mm — and a white, off-white or light-blue background.
Fine-tune
Drag the photo and use the zoom slider until your head fills the dashed oval, eyes level and centred.
Download or print
Download the single photo, or a 4×6 in / A4 sheet with several copies and cut lines to print at home or at any photo kiosk.
Frequently asked questions
- Will my photo be accepted?
- Rules differ by country and authority — size, head size, background colour, glasses, expression and how recent the photo is. The tool sizes and places your photo to common standards, but it can't check it against official rules, so always read your issuing authority's requirements before you submit.
- Is my photo uploaded?
- No. Background removal, sizing and the print sheet are all done in your browser; your photo never leaves your device.
- How do I print it at the right size?
- Download the 4×6 in sheet and print it as a standard 4×6 (10×15 cm) photo at 100% scale — not "fit to page". Then cut along the grey lines.
- Which size do I need?
- 2×2 in (51×51 mm) is used for US passports and visas; 35×45 mm is common for the UK, the EU/Schengen area and many other countries; Canada uses 50×70 mm. Check the exact size for your document.
