Frequently asked questions
- When should I convert PNG to JPG?
- PNG is the better format for logos, screenshots and anything with sharp edges or flat colour. JPG is built for photographs. If a photo saved as PNG is too large to email or upload, converting it to JPG usually shrinks it dramatically with no visible difference — often to a fraction of the original size.
- What happens to transparency?
- JPG has no transparency channel at all. Any transparent area in your PNG is flattened onto white during the conversion, which is why a logo with a transparent background comes out sitting in a white box. If you need to keep transparency and still want a smaller file, convert to WebP instead — it supports both.
- Which quality setting should I use?
- 90% is a sensible default and keeps photographs looking untouched. Lower values shrink the file further but start to show blocky artefacts around sharp edges and text. If your image contains screenshots or lettering, keep the quality high or stay with PNG — JPG is not kind to fine detail.
- Are my files uploaded to a server?
- No. Everything runs entirely in your browser — your files never leave your device.
