Frequently asked questions

Why would I need JPG instead of WebP?
WebP is a newer format, and while every modern browser displays it, plenty of places still won't take it — older photo software, some upload forms, print shops, and a lot of email clients. JPG is the most widely accepted image format there is, so converting gives you a file you can hand to anyone without wondering whether it will open.
What changes when I convert?
Both formats are lossy, so the picture is decoded and re-encoded rather than simply relabelled. If the WebP had transparent areas, JPG cannot store them and they are flattened onto a white background. The resulting JPG is often slightly larger than the WebP you started with — that is expected, because WebP compresses more efficiently at the same visual quality.
How do I keep the quality high?
The quality slider controls the trade-off. Around 90% is visually indistinguishable from the original for most photographs while still cutting the file size. Drop lower only if you need a specific target size. Try to avoid converting the same image back and forth repeatedly — every lossy re-encode discards a little more detail, and that loss is permanent.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Everything runs entirely in your browser — your files never leave your device.
