- When should I convert JPG to PNG?
- PNG is lossless, so nothing is thrown away when the file is saved. That makes it the right choice when you are about to edit and re-save an image several times, when you need a transparent background, or when a platform or tool specifically asks for PNG.
- Why is my PNG bigger than the JPG?
- PNG records every pixel exactly instead of approximating it. Photographs contain enormous amounts of fine variation, so lossless compression cannot shrink them much. A 2 MB JPG photo can easily become a 6 MB PNG. That is normal and not a sign anything went wrong — you are trading file size for an exact copy.
- Will converting to PNG improve the quality?
- No, and this is worth being clear about: a JPG has already permanently discarded some detail to achieve its small size. Converting it to PNG preserves everything that remains perfectly, but it cannot bring back what the JPG threw away. If you want maximum quality, start from the original file rather than a JPG copy.
- Are my files uploaded to a server?
